The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) have taken a major step toward improving mobile user safety and transparency.
Soon, when you receive a call, your phone will not just display the number — it will also show the caller’s name, officially verified through telecom data.

This new system, called CNAP (Calling Name Presentation), will help users identify who’s calling — reducing spam, scam, and fraud calls that have become a huge problem in India.
Unlike apps like Truecaller, this feature will be directly built into the telecom network, making it more secure and accurate.

According to reports, DoT has directed all telecom operators — including Jio, Airtel, Vi, and BSNL — to start pilot projects within a week. Once testing is successful, the full rollout will begin nationwide.
However, 2G users might not get this feature as older networks do not support CNAP.

While this move promises better safety and trust, it also raises questions about privacy and data sharing.
