The Senegal bushbaby (Galago senegalensis) is a small nocturnal primate that lives in sub-Saharan Africa north of the equator. This member of the Galago family is an odd and mysterious creature that calls dry woodland savannas home. It's a very strong jumper and it has huge eyes that allow it to see well in the dark.

On my trip to Senegal in 2017, I went out around 3am to record the dawn chorus in a wooded savanna area. I set up a rig and then waited in a tent nearby. This curious bushbaby found my recording rig and spent about half an hour investigating it. It then moved closer to my tent and called at me before it moved away. This was a lovely interaction with a cute creature that is seldom seen because of its nocturnal habits.
