let's look at the facts of this supposed "nether river"... fact 1: river bed formation. fact 2: cave right up above where the river ended, implying potential river source. fact 3: there was a lava pond just ahead of it, so it would have somewhere to drain into. fact 4: water evaporates immediately in the nether. enough facts for now...
i know it's a snowball's chance in the nether, and it violates all nether knowledge and fact 4, but is there any chance that the hot and hostile nether might have been.. lush.. at some point in the past? there are trees down there, living things, and makeshift biomes just like in the overworld. is it possible that the nether used to be a more habitable place, but somehow got cursed or had some awful disaster? or maybe the nether had a balance of hot and livable, but became unbalanced? this is all just a theory of course.
but please debate this in the comments section.
