A sweeping analysis of war, empire, and human consciousness, Professor Jiang Xueqin argues that modern conflict cannot be understood through conventional military logic alone. In this lecture, he dissects what he describes as the three pillars of a potential American strategy against Iran—decapitation of leadership, aerial supremacy through bombing and sabotage, and the arming of insurgent groups. Yet his central claim is deeply paradoxical: these tactics, designed to weaken Iran, could ultimately strengthen it by fostering national cohesion, revitalizing leadership through forced meritocracy, and awakening dormant Persian nationalism.
Drawing from concepts in political sociology and strategic studies, Jiang suggests that external pressure often produces the opposite of its intended effect. Rather than fracturing a society, sustained military pressure may unify competing factions—urban and rural, secular and religious—into a single, mobilized national identity. In response, he argues Iran would rely on classic guerrilla warfare: absorbing attacks, retreating into geography and time, and gradually imposing economic and psychological costs on its adversary. In this framework, the real constraint lies not with Iran but with the United States, whose political will, industrial capacity, and tolerance for prolonged conflict may be limited.
The lecture then pivots into a broader philosophical claim about power in the modern world. According to Jiang, geopolitical struggles are not simply contests over territory, resources, or even military dominance. Instead, he frames them as battles over human consciousness itself—the ability to shape perception, narrative, and collective belief. In this interpretation, global conflicts become struggles over the psychological and cultural foundations that determine how societies understand reality and legitimacy. The ultimate prize, he argues, is not merely strategic victory but influence over the very framework through which humanity interprets power and history.
