Whether in connection with their marketing programs or other datadriven
initiatives, consumer products companies are becoming more and more reliant on the data of their customers. Those that are collecting consumer
data need to be aware of and in compliance with California’s laws regarding collection and protection. Where compliance requirements are not met, such companies need to take steps to mitigate the risks associated with
noncompliance. Discussion points will include: l Laws regarding Consumer data and privacy, including California Consumer Privacy Act (effective 1/1/20), California’s Data Breach Notification Requirements, and California’s requirements concerning the protection of information collected by connected devices (SB 327) l Criteria for determining if your company is
subject to the law, what constitutes personal information, and what the law requires (proactively and in connection with a data breach incident) l Strategies for compliance and penalties/liability for failure to comply
