Beginning in 1998, Mr. Wallick worked under the mentorship of Armand Santucci, a former CIA operational specialist. From 2001 onward, he participated in long-form analytical work related to the Iraq War until Santucci’s death in 2014. His analytical formation was grounded in comparative conflict analysis, using the Iran–Iraq War as a foundational case study for examining institutional behavior under constraint.
