Dr. Carmela (Lilli) Freda is the new Executive Director of EPOS, succeeding Massimo Cocco in this role. Today I will interview Dr. Freda about EPOS and ask her about the new challenges and opportunities that she sees in her new function. MORE INFO on EPOS: https://www.epos-eu.org/

Lilli has decades of experience in solid Earth science and close to ten years of experience in the management of a European research infrastructure. Lilli graduated in Earth Science at La Sapienza University in Rome (1989). Since 2001 she has been employed as a researcher at Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) in Rome, following from previous research employments, starting in 1990, at Sapienza Università and Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche). During her research career, she spent time as a visiting researcher at research institutions in Sweden, Germany, Italy, Canada, and the UK and participated in research surveys and sampling campaigns on active volcanoes all around the globe. In 2010, she was invited to join the Horizon 2020 EPOS Preparatory Phase project contributing to the implementation of the Working Group focused on integrating analytical and experimental European laboratories within the EPOS framework. Since 2011, she has been dedicating an increasing proportion of her work time to managerial activities related to the EPOS Research Infrastructure holding key roles such as Scientific Officer of EPOS ERIC, Member of the Italian Delegation within the EPOS ERIC General Assembly, Member of the EPOS Board of National Scientific Representatives … and now, 100% of her working time is committed to EPOS.
