Bud Clark, former mayor of Portland

"Whether as barkeep or keeper of the city, former Portland mayor Bud Clark has his share of stories, from revealing the origin of the Expose Yourself to Art poster, to who said ""read my lips"" and his most asked question: “What was it like to be on the Johnny Carson Show?""
Considered a controversial mayor by some, Clark's 1984-1992 tenure oversaw the construction of the Oregon Convention Center, the introduction of the concept of community policing, the creation of the 12-point Homeless Plan, and the return of the city to solvency. A longtime Portland resident and graduate of Lincoln High, Clark was a businessman and community activist prior to serving as mayor. Clark became owner and operator of the Goose Hollow Inn in 1967, founded The Neighbor newspaper in 1975, and became co-owner of the Forsstrom and Clark Waterfowl Specialties and Duck Stuff in 1982. Clark's civic activities have included the Northwest District Association, Goose Hollow Neighborhood Association, Portland-Multnomah Area Agency on Aging Planning Committee, and the Meals-On-Wheels program.
