We are living in a time when spiritual battles are intensifying in daily life. Words are harsher, emotions rise quickly, and hearts are easily wounded. Scripture therefore commands us to “be renewed in your mind.” Spiritual warfare begins in our thoughts, words, emotions, and small choices. The Holy Spirit shines light on our wounds and bitterness to renew us, but when we follow the flow of the flesh, our hearts open in the wrong direction and the enemy gains access.
So we must hold on to three flows: putting off the old self, living by the Spirit, and using the spiritual weapons God has placed in our daily lives. When these work together, we walk in victory.
1. Putting Off the Old Self and Putting On the New
1) Speaking Truth and Governing Our Emotions
Ephesians 4 shows that spiritual warfare begins with our words and emotions. God calls us to put away falsehood because speech reveals our spiritual state. When exaggeration or careless talk fills our words, spiritual sensitivity weakens and relationships suffer.
Uncontrolled anger opens a door to the enemy. Only when the Holy Spirit governs our emotions can spiritual order be restored and our hearts protected.
2) A Life of Kindness and Forgiveness
The old self wounds others easily, but God calls us to be kind, compassionate, and forgiving—just as Christ forgave us. This forgiveness is unconditional, and kindness is a work of the Spirit. Where these flow, the enemy has no room and peace fills homes and the church.
2. Overcoming the Flesh and Living by the Spirit
1) The Desires of the Flesh and Paul’s Warning
The flesh strongly pulls every believer toward the world. Galatians 5 warns that not only immorality or idolatry, but also jealousy, strife, and division are works of the flesh. When the flesh grows stronger, our emotions and words shift, our hearts open, and the Spirit’s guidance becomes dim.
2) Living by the Spirit
A Spirit-led life involves two movements:
bearing the fruit of the Spirit,
removing what grieves the Spirit.
Love, peace, and patience are His fruit, while bitterness, anger, pride, and sinful habits block His flow. When these stay in balance, the Spirit’s guidance and anointing remain clear.
3) Discerning the Spirit of Falsehood
The last days are filled with deception that dulls spiritual senses. That is why Scripture commands us to speak the truth. Truth acts as a shield, while falsehood is like poison. When we walk in truth and correct one another in love, the Holy Spirit’s presence flows through the community.
3. Spiritual Weapons Hidden in Everyday Life
1) Conversing with the Holy Spirit
The Spirit’s gentle whispers—“Pause,” “Don’t say that,” “Guard your heart”—are immediate and powerful weapons. One whisper can change direction and cut off the enemy’s strategy. When this inner conversation stays alive, the heart stays protected.
2) The Word, Confession, Prayer, and Praise
God gives us four daily weapons:
the Word, our shield against lies,
faith confession, which releases authority,
prayer, which shifts circumstances,
and praise, which draws God’s presence.
These are practical and immediate tools for battle.
3) Giving Thanks in All Circumstances
When gratitude disappears, complaint opens a door to the enemy. Thanksgiving blocks darkness and shifts the battle toward victory.
4) The Help of God’s Angels
God sends His angels to guard His people. They block unseen attacks, clear our path, and work like God’s heavenly army.
5) The Spirit’s Touch and Renewing Presence
The Holy Spirit’s presence breaks chains, heals wounds, and drives out darkness. It is not emotion but the real power of God that renews the soul.
4. Closing
Today we saw three pillars: the new self, a Spirit-led life, and the spiritual weapons hidden in daily routines. If we neglect these, our hearts and relationships crumble; but when we walk with the Spirit and use the weapons God provides, the enemy loses access and our inner life comes alive.
Spiritual battle happens in everyday life—so walk with the Spirit and use the weapons He has placed in your hands.
