The Sanctuary House: A Modern Urban Oasis

The Sanctuary House, designed by Feldman Architecture, is a modern home located in Palo Alto, California. Conceived for a couple transitioning to retirement, the design emphasizes simplicity and harmony with nature. The house integrates indoor and outdoor spaces seamlessly, featuring three pavilions that span the lot and numerous courtyards and gardens. Elevated on piers to protect the roots of a heritage oak tree, the structure includes floating concrete slabs and balconies that blur the lines between the interior and exterior. The house's clean material palette of concrete and Alaskan yellow cedar enhances its modern aesthetic while allowing the lush landscape to take center stage.
