Mayor Sheldon Neeley has issued a statement on the passing of Captain Collin Birnie .

Mayor Sheldon Neeley said, " Captain Birnie was a respected leader in our community and beloved by the members of our agency. Captain Birnie served Flint community for 26 years. We offer our condolences to his family and all those that loved him. "

Mount Morris Township has confirmed the crash involved a 16-year-old drive passing cars while going southbound on Elms Road.

Police say it is possible that the 16-year-old lost control of the vehicle, or may have not had time to stop before hitting the Captain's vehicle.

No charges or arrests have been made at this time, as the crash is under investigation.

Police believe speed may have been possibly been a factor in the crash, but have not officially said that is the case.
