Did you know the colador de media traces its roots to Japan’s tea culture? 🎎
Over time, this humble method became part of everyday coffee traditions across Latin America, especially in the Dominican Republic. The cloth filter brings out smooth, rich flavors while keeping the process sustainable and reusable.🤎🔆

The cloth filter was a solution because the paper industry was not accessible to everyone back then. The greca or MokaPot had not yet been invented, nor other modern coffee brewing methods. Therefore, before the greca became a household staple, Dominican coffee was prepared with a colador de media, specially in the campo and still is a go to in rural locations within the Dom.Rep— This is a cloth filter that looks like a butterfly net, designed to steep coffee in hot water. The problem with the cloth filter is its difficulty in cleaning, as it often retains particles. Over time, it was phased out because it became inefficient and required too much maintenance even though some people still use it in rural areas in the present time. 🌺

This method creates a coffee that’s smoother and lighter, often compared to a pour-over method. Simple yet full of flavor, café en colador is a reminder of the resourcefulness and beauty of our culture.☕️
