We’ll begin by removing the old water pump. Along the way we noticed that the shift shaft boot was damaged, so we made a quick replacement. If you notice yours is damaged, check the link at the top of this description to get one.

With the boot replaced, we’ll work on replacing the impeller along with the rest of the water pump on our Mercury 40. The entire water pump comes as a kit, and you can find it along with all of the parts, tools and supplies we used at the link at the top of the description.
