Life in Kashmir is likely to be disrupted as the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for both North and South Kashmir, predicting heavy snowfall between January 22 and January 27. The snowfall is expected to affect air traffic and vehicular movement on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway, the only all-weather road link connecting the valley with the rest of the country.
According to the MET department, heavy snowfall is likely not only in higher reaches but also in the plains of Kashmir. Authorities have warned of a high risk of avalanches in several vulnerable areas due to continuous snowfall.
