A Nostalgic Tour of Milton Keynes in the Early 1990s

In early 1993, likely between January and March, my best friend Cameron and I decided to film a tour of Milton Keynes. We created this video for our friends Lincoln, who had moved back to Hong Kong, and Deb, who had returned to Australia. We’re not sure if they ever got to see it back then, but now, with this video going live, they finally will. Despite the years and distance, we’ve stayed in touch, and they still live in Hong Kong and Australia.

Judging by the scenes, this video was likely shot on a Saturday during the winter months—probably in November, given the chilly, overcast weather. Evesham Micros, where I worked at the time, was open until 7 PM on Saturdays. Towards the end of the video, you can see us returning to the store as darkness falls, which further suggests a late afternoon or early evening shoot.

Cameron, who worked in the computer room at Touche Ross (now Deloitte), managed to get us into the building for a quick tour. We even made our way onto the roof, though how we got there remains a mystery. Back then, security was more relaxed, and we had the run of the place.

I was part of the support department at the Milton Keynes branch of Evesham Micros. Watching this footage brings back memories of those big boxed software products lining the shelves—a stark contrast to today’s digital downloads. Computer monitors were enormous and heavy, unlike the sleek, lightweight screens we use now. I even recall having a separate machine just for email, which was a novelty at the time, seldom used and often forgotten to be turned on.

I hope this video sparks some memories for those who were there and provides a fascinating glimpse into the past for those who weren’t. Be sure to check out my other videos for more trips down memory lane in Milton Keynes.

Enjoy the journey back in time.
