Kaisi gehri baat mili hai hum koi ik deewane se
Sari girhen khul jati hain aik girha khul jane se

Khamoshi se phel raha tha chaaron janib sannata
Kaise sab kuch badal gaya hai aik awaz lagane se

Kya hai ab jo nasl e nou ne hum ko hans kar taal diya
Hum bhi kab us dour e junoon main samjhe thay samjhane se

Taqat or doulat ka nasha bas is ko zahir kar deta hai
Warna fitrat kab badli halaat ke badle jane se

Pehle wo khamosh raha phir yakdam shole pehn liye
Hum ne ik din puchi thi ik baat kisi parvane se

کیسی گہری بات ملی ہے ہم کو اک دیوانے سے
ساری گرہیں کھل جاتی ہیں ایک گرہ کھل جانے سے

خاموشی سے پھیل رہا تھا چاروں جانب سناٹا
کیسے سب کچھ بدل گیا ہے ایک آواز لگانے سے

کیا ہے اب جو نسل ِ نو نے ہم کو ہنس کر ٹال دیا
ہم بھی کب اس دور ِ جنوں میں سمجھے تھے سمجھانے سے

طاقت اور دولت کا نشہ بس اس کو ظاہر کر دیتا ہے
ورنہ فطرت کب بدلی حالات کے بدلے جانے سے

پہلے وہ خاموش رہا پھر یکدم شعلے پہن لئے
ہم نے اک دن پوچھی تھی اک بات کسی پروانے سے

कैसी गहरी बात मिली है हम को एक दीवाने से
सारी गिरहें खुल जाती हैं एक गिरः खुल जाने से

ख़ामोशी से फैल रहा था चारों जानिब सन्नाटा
कैसे सब कुछ बदल गया है एक आवाज़ लगाने से

क्या है अब जो नस्ल-ए-नौ ने हम को हँस कर टाल दिया
हम भी कब उस दौर-ए-जूनून मैं समझे थे समझाने से

ताक़त और दौलत का नशा बस इस को ज़ाहिर कर देता है
वर्ना फितरत कब बदली हालात के बदले जाने से

पहले वो खामोश रहा फिर एकदम शोले पहन लिए
हम ने एक दिन पूछी थी एक बात किसी परवाने से
