A young bear, ensnared near the Armenian village of Vardahovit, was saved by our partners FPWC with assistance from the Rapid Response Group. The poor bear, about 2-3 years old, was caught in a villagers' snares, set up to trap bears from entering the area.

Upon arrival, the team found him extremely stressed! These rescue operations are always a challenge and must be conducted safely, but quickly to ensure the bear doesn’t hurt himself or others. So to safely examine the bear, he was anaesthetized from a distance. Thankfully no serious injuries were found, just minor scratches. After completing all the necessary check-ups, the bear was relocated to an area away from the village to avoid any dangerous confrontations in the future.

Once at the release site, the bear needed extra time to overcome the anaesthesia, a side effect of his stressful morning ordeal. He was closely monitored by vets throughout this period.

At the end of the video you can witness the moment this sweet bear opens his eyes again, free from the cruel snare which caused all of this stress! After ensuring he was fully alert and mobile, the team watched as he made his way back into the wild - a safe and successful release!
