Surah Al-Mutaffifin (سورة المطففين) is the 83rd chapter of the Qur'an, consisting of 36 verses. It was revealed in Mecca or early in Medina, and its title means “Those Who Give Less (in Measure and Weight)”.
🌟 Central Theme: Justice and Honesty in Dealings
The surah condemns fraud and dishonesty in trade and warns of the consequences in the Hereafter. It contrasts the fate of the wicked (fujjar) with that of the righteous (abrar).
🔍 Summary of Key Sections:
1. Condemnation of Fraud (Verses 1–6)
“Woe to those who give less [than due], who, when they take a measure from people, take in full. But if they give by measure or weight to them, they cause loss.”
This section strongly criticizes those who cheat others in business, calling it a grave sin.
2. Warning of the Day of Judgment (Verses 7–17)
The surah warns of the punishment recorded in the register of the wicked (Sijjin).
It describes how the hearts of sinners are stained by their misdeeds.
On the Day of Judgment, they will be deprived of seeing Allah.
3. Reward of the Righteous (Verses 18–28)
The deeds of the righteous are recorded in Illiyyin, a high and honored record.
They will be in bliss, seated on thrones, and served drinks sealed with musk—depicting the luxurious reward of Paradise.
4. Final Warning & Ironic Reversal (Verses 29–36)
The disbelievers used to mock the believers in the worldly life.
On the Day of Judgment, the roles will be reversed — the believers will laugh at the disbelievers, who will face humiliation and punishment.
📘 Key Lessons:
Honesty in trade is a serious moral obligation.
Cheating and fraud are major sins that bring Divine punishment.
Records of deeds (Sijjin and Illiyyin) are real and determine one’s fate.
