Scenes from nature and illustrations accompany a traditional tale of how things came to be, narrated by Chickasaw storyteller Lorie Carmichael. She tells how Bear called for it to be night all the time, while Squirrel saw the bands on Raccoon's tail and was inspired to suggest dividing night from day in the same manner. Angered when the animal council approved this plan, Bear swiped at Squirrel with his claws, which explains why there are three marks that resemble scratches on the ground squirrel's back. Illustrations by Jeannie Barbour are provided for this episode by Chickasaw Press.
