Sarah Hepola, author of Blackout (moderator) in conversation with Deb Olin Unferth, author of Barn 8, and Yxta Maya Murray, Whiting Award-winning author of Art is Everything.

Author Bios

Sarah Hepola is the author of the New York Times bestseller, Blackout. She is a contributing writer to Texas Monthly, and her work has appeared in The New York Times magazine, The Guardian, Elle, Glamour, Buzzfeed, and Salon, where she was a longtime editor. She lives in Dallas.

Yxta Maya Murray is a writer and law professor living in Los Angeles. Her novels include The Good Girl’s Guide to Getting Kidnapped, The King’s Gold: An Old World Novel of Adventure, and The Queen Jade: A Novel. Her fiction has appeared in Ploughshares, the Georgia Review, the Southern Review, and the Los Angeles Review of Books. She has won a Whiting Writer's Award and an Art Writer's Grant, and she has been a finalist for the ASME Award in Fiction. Her art criticism can be found in Artforum, ARTnews, Artillery, and other periodicals.

Deb Olin Unferth is the author of six books, including the novel Barn 8, the graphic novel I, Parrot, and the memoir Revolution, finalist for the National Book Critics’ Circle Award. Published in Harper’s, the New York Times, The Paris Review, Granta, and McSweeney’s, she received a Guggenheim fellowship and three Pushcart Prizes. An associate professor at the University of Texas in Austin, she also directs the Pen City Writers creative-writing program at a south Texas penitentiary.
