Alkmaar, The Netherlands - World’s Oldest Cheese Market - YES or NO?

Just a quick 40 minutes from Amsterdam, is the lovely city of Alkmaar. They are very famous for hosting the oldest cheese market in the world. Some say it dates back as far as the 1500s!

We always see the Alkmaar Cheese Market recommended, so we finally went to check it out. We ended up liking the town of Alkmaar way more than the cheese market itself. Old time candy shop, cheese stick fondue, and some ice cream all against a gorgeous Dutch city backdrop.
