This is a brief look at connotation, denotation and symbolic meaning in the Prologue of Steven Erikson's Toll the Hounds (Book 08 MBotF).
The main thrust of this is the importance of returning to a Prologue after you finish the book to see just how sneaky authors are at sneaking in foreshadowing and foregrounding.

The first section is spoiler free and is a general look at broad concepts that are being addressed, but the second section is spoilers for Toll the Hounds.

The spoiler section is clearly marked and is roughly around 24 minutes in.
