Contact Improvisation (CI) is a movement practice
involving an open-ended exploration
of listening and connection
with one’s self, others, and the surroundings,
through spontaneous, moving points of contact.

Embodiment Activism recognizes the intelligence of the body and works to make it accessible.
At the jam we take our practice to the streets, reshaping what is possible in human connection.

The Burlington Jam is curated by Abbi Jaffe, Amanda Franz, Michelle Lefkowitz, Alison Mott, Paul Kempner, Hazel Turrone, and Joanie Bégin-Morin in the footsteps of the many others before us since around 1981.

Your dedicated organizers create a dynamic experience for the local and wider contact improv community every year.

Each jam includes a fundamentals class for all levels by a teacher that is familiar with AXIS Syllabus, music jam, guided warm up, urban dance walk / embodiment activism, evening festivities, DJ dance party, and an Underscore.

We work to incorporate social justice into our theme each year and to diversify the organizational and guest artist team. Please reach out to us with your ideas. Coming soon, a diversity scholarship for participants.
