Hyundai i20 Active is the fourth manufacturer to offer a Cross variant of a hatchback. It follows the trail of VW, Toyota and Fiat but has a lot to offer that differentiates it from others, let’s see what is it.

One look at the i20 Active and you can easily make out that this cross means business. The front gets an upgrade over the normal Elite i20 with projector headlamps and DRL’s, large foglamps, all-around body cladding, front silver lower lip on the bumper. The sides feature diamond cut alloy wheels, chrome door handles and rub pads that add to the statement. The i20 Active gets its own attitude with the wide and compact glass, indented tailgate, large round reflectors with integrated foglamp and reversing light. It looks very bold and reflects Hyundai’s breaking away from the conventional Crosses.

On the inside, there is much difference in Elite i20 and i20 Active except for the orange accents on seats and places like A/C vent enclosures, gearshift knob. Space is what i20 Active gets in plenty, for passenger to driver everyone will feel comfortable and cozy there is also dedicated A/C Vent for rear occupants. While the list of interior features remain same as in its hatch sibling. The music system comes with same features like bluetooth connectivity, AUX-in, streaming, calling, etc. There is plenty of boot space, 285 liters to be precise, that can fit all kind of stuff.

On the performance front, it gets 1.4 litre diesel that produces 90 PS of power. But despite being the similarly powerful as the Elite i20 the Active seems a little more eager to drive mostly because of the shortened throws between shifts. Also, Active is the only car that comes with a six-speed gearbox, it also returns a fuel economy of 21.19 kmpl. It gets decent ride and handling and considerably less body roll despite the raised ground clearance of 190mm.

Verdict
Active i20 is a good option to go for in this segment as it looks good from almost all angles, is very feature rich, gets a good motor. On the downside, it is the most expensive of the segment and could look overdone to some.
