🟡 The Astronomicon in Warhammer 40k:

It is a beacon of psychic energy used by imperial navigators to find their way in the 🌀warp it also facilitates 🗣️communication across the Imperium.
It was first mentioned in the first edition ⭐Rogue Traders Rulebook in 1987.

Reportedly at least a thousand 🟣Psykers are sacrificed daily to power the 🟡Golden Throne, thus keeping the 👑Emperor alive and directing the
🕯️astronomicon.

In the 🔴⭐30th Millennium prior to the
🌕Horus Heresy 🟡The Emperor's power was all that was needed to maintain the 🕯️astronomicon, A structure which is close to the center of the Imperial palace on 🌍Terra, is supposedly housed in man-made
🏔️hollow mountain, as revealed in the novel series 📖The Vaults of Terror. The second novel in that series, Hollow Mountain was published in 2019.

The chamber of the astronomicon was defended by 🦁the Dark Angels from the 🦠deathwatch during the final days of the ⏺️Siege of Terror.

The workings of 🕯️the Astronomicon maintained by specially trained 🟣psykers known as the
⭐🟡Adeptus Astronomica.
Members of the adaptor astronomica include:
Functionaries;
Instructors;
👩‍🎓And the chosen;
This latter group performed exceptionally during the training process and spend the majority of their lives in 🕉️contemplation, and making peace with their place in the universe until they enter the Chamber of the 🕯️Astronomicon, can hold 10,000 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 people.
In this way the chosen join the ⏺️Choir of the Astronomicon, and are replaced whenever an existing member is too drained by the taxing process.
This cycle has been repeating for the last 10,000 years, within the imperium. 😲 Apparently the chosen go to their fate voluntarily.

So, the chosen as members of 🕯️The Adeptus Astronomica are separate from the 1000 🟣Pskers sacrificed to keep the Emperor alive.
🟡🔎The Emperor's role is to focus and direct the astronomicon and direct the power to where it is needed.

The YouTuber ⚫Live from the Black library things that the astronomicon is a small localised 🌀warp storm.
They cite the novel 📖Talon of Horace written by ⭐Aaron Demsky-Bowden in 2014, which states that demons exposed to the astronomicon feel feel 🤕pain in a similar way to 🟣psykers when they sense an approaching 🌩️ storm.
Moreover, 😈 demons come out of the
🕯️astronomicon when worlds in the 👁️ Eye of Terror are exposed to it. This phenomenon is strongest in an area called 🔥fire tide.

🪽 Imperious was an a facet of the astronomicon, and a figment of The Emperor's dreaming mind that took on the guise over holy man on a 🙏pilgrimage, and was the imperiums equivalent of a ⏺️ greater demon. He appeared in the 📖⭐Talon of Horace 2014 I'm tried to talk to the chaos Space marine 🎭Iskandar Khayon, who was attempting to find 🌕 Horus's flagship
💀🔥the vengeful spirit.

The 📖Arks of Omen book series published by Games Workshop in 2023 it was revealed that there could be
⭐🟡minor Astronomicons, and that 🌀warp storms could be triggered by the voluntary release of
🟣psychic energy.
An example of a warp storm being created was the voluntary 💀s*icide of a large group of chaos cultists during the 🌕Horus heresy's ⚔️battle of Calth. Vile martyrdom created the 🌩️ Ruin Storm which kept loyalist forces isolated the north of the galaxy, and unable to reach 🌍terra.
