This video was shot before, during, and after the storm. The Datran Center and the Dadeland Marriott still exist. The Xtra store was demolished in the late '90s and replaced with a Publix.

At 9:08 you see the original Burger King headquarters building, which was vacant at the time of the storm. (Burger King's then-current headquarters building on Old Cutler Road sustained significant damage from an 18-foot storm surge.) On the left you see the Dadeland Medical Building. Both of those buildings are gone now. Dadeland Mall is on the other side of Kendall Drive.

The Dadeland area was on the very northern fringe of the eyewall. The mall itself weathered the storm very well. In contrast, the Bloomingdale's at the Falls suffered severe damage.

Cutler Ridge Mall was all but destroyed. The JCPenney store in particular was a total loss - it was completely demolished and rebuilt from scratch. Sears and Morrison's Cafeteria were able to reopen a few weeks after the storm but the rest of the mall was closed for almost two years.
