The Runaways-Wild Thing

Bio by She Rox All Female Bands:The 1970's, were not known so much for all female rock bands, although several were around such as Fanny and Birtha, the 1970's were a decade of women's rights and movements that made landmark history in the United States, music seem to reflect such events of political status, the Runaways who began in 1975, were not the first all female rock band, nor the first teenage rock band, however they were the first hard rock all female band, of which were sexually powerful, from the seedy underbelly of Hollywood,California many critics tore the band apart for their sleazy sound and antics that were nothing short of what all male bands were doing, add to that the fact that the girls were all around 16 years old, it was easy for many to disregard them as a joke to pander to male audiences, the band however had a large U.S following and sold out shows with ease, what carried the Runaways to the cult status they have current day, even without gaining a strong U.S commercial success, is the fact that the girls in the band were beyond talented, the Runaways lasted five years and recorded four studio albums along with a live album, the band did have a number one hit in Japan with Cherry Bomb, and were hugely successful in Sweden as well but failed to conquer the U.S. market, this shows to their credit how far ahead of their time they really were,.To say that the Runaways did not shape the history of women in music is to deny the fact that they are the most influential all female band of our time and have been called such by more women in rock then any other, their legacy and contributions to all female bands is immeasurable. from Live in Japan CD, drummer Sandy West in a rare performance providing lead vocals and drums along with Cherie Currie-Vocals, Joan Jett-Guitar and Vocals, Lita Ford-Lead Guitar and Jackie Fox on Bass. like us at   / sheroxallfemalebands
