Following the death of King Edward VI, Lady Jane Grey 'The 9 Day Queen' came onto the throne of England. She is remembered today as the shortest reigning monarch in History. She is a tragic figure who was executed on the orders of Bloody Mary I, but when she became Queen her Husband Lord Guildford Dudley expected to be King. For a brief period of days, Guildford tried to maintain that he was the King, and he even addressed himself as 'King Guildford.' However the short and tragic reign of Lady Jane would be over quickly, as Mary I rose up and overthrew her.

Lady Jane Grey and Guildford Dudley were imprisoned inside the Tower of London, and it looked initially as if they would be spared by the notorious Tudor monarch. However as the threat of rebellion loomed, Mary I ordered the execution of Guildford Dudley and Lady Jane Grey. Guildford was taken out of the Tower of London to Tower Hill where on the scaffold he met the executioner and axeman who would take his life.
