Land Rover Death Weave - Series Swivel Pin Adjustment

Attempting to cure the wayward handling of a 1983 Series 3 109". A front axle out of adjustment can cause these vehicles to become very skittish, bumps initiating change of direction, heavy steering and unnerving cornering characteristics! The swivel bearings require a pre-load, giving a damping effect.

Please note that this is more of a "field repair" than a proper detailed overhaul - it is far better to set the swivel pre-load without the seals fitted, although in this case they are old seals and won't be creating so much drag as new ones. Also note that the pre-load setting varies according to subtle changes made to the axle design over the years - this is the later type with railko bushes.
