Noshin Sarfraz, a distinguished horticulturist and floriculturist, stands at the forefront of botanical excellence. Serving as the President of the Amateur Gardening Club and concurrently spearheading the Lahore Gymkhana Gardening Club, she has emerged as a prominent figure in the world of horticulture and gardening.

Noshin's passion for plants and gardens goes beyond the surface, delving into the realms of historical significance and gardening concepts. Her extensive research on Shalimar Bagh stands as a testament to her commitment to understanding the intricate relationship between history and horticulture.

Constructed in 1641-2 by Shah Jahan, the Shalimar Gardens represent a fusion of Persian influences with medieval Islamic garden traditions, showcasing the pinnacle of Mughal artistic expression. Marked by enclosing walls, a linear layout of paths and features, and extensive flowing water, the Mughal garden exudes its distinctive charm. The Shalimar Gardens are organized into three terraces descending from south to north. Enclosed by a crenellated wall of red sandstone, the garden features square beds on the upper and lower terraces, with elongated blocks on the narrower intermediate terrace.

In 1981, the Shalimar Gardens earned the prestigious designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognizing the historical and cultural significance of the gardens. Delving into the Thematic Gardening Concept of Shalimar Bagh, Noshin emphasizes that the Reflective Gardening concept was prevalent during the Mughal era, shedding light on the idea that the Mughals were pioneers not only in architecture but also in horticulture, floriculture, and floral design concepts. Noshin challenges the conventional narrative that often portrays the West as the sole originator of such ideas, asserting the Mughal dynasty's profound influence in shaping these aspects.

Noshin Sarfraz's dedication to preserving and promoting the rich heritage of horticulture reflects not only in her research but also in her active involvement in gardening clubs. As a leader in these clubs, she encourages enthusiasts to explore the nuanced connections between history and horticulture, fostering a deeper appreciation for the art and science of cultivating beauty in the natural world.
