The temple was founded by the two sons of Shri Madan Mohan Dutta - Rashiklal Dutta and Jawaharlal Dutta in 1794, The temple is 226 years old. The majority of the properties in the area was once belonged to the Dutta family of Hatkhola. The temple sculptor was Sri Gadadhar Das.

Built in the Aatchala style of Bengal temple architecture,prevailing in bengal in 18th and 19th century.the structure is indeed a massive one and not many temples of this size exist in KOLKATA. Length of this aatchala mandir is about 24ft, breadth is about 29ft and height is almost 50ft. The temple facade was once decorated with Terracotta works and artistic creation in Pankha style.

The Shiv Linga,built in black stone almost 10ft in height.

LOCATION & VISITING HOURS:
From the Ahiritola-Jorabagan crossing, Nimtalla Ghat Street starts, extended towards the Hooghly river in the west and ends meeting The Stand road, just before the Circular railway track. At the junction, that stands Niyamatullah mosque on the right. Beside the mosque,a narrow lane is there. Take a walk into the lane from Nimtalla Ghat street and the Durgeshwar temple will be on your left.

The temple opens in the morning at 4.30am to till 12 noon.

And it again opens at 4pm in the evening. The main mass attraction is the arati of Durgeshwar Mota Mahadev every evening after 8pm, Shivlingam is decorated with flowers very beautifully before evening arati.
