A letter written to Cicero in 43 BC consists of a first hand account of a battle in the Civil War between Mark Antony and his opponents. The author was Ser. Sulpicius Galba, former subordinate of Julius Caesar who became one of his assassins. Although brief, the letter is unique in giving a first hand account of a battle in the ancient world written by a participant the day after the fighting.

In the future we will examine Roman generals and their role in battle in much more detail, as well as looking at this battle and others in some detail, so this is a preview of things to come.
