The Rest that Came Late

Chu Yiu-ming, one of the three co-founders of Hong Kong’s Occupy Central, began a new chapter in his life in Taiwan at the end of 2020. Fifty years ago, he came to Taiwan alone to study theology, learning how to become a pastor who could engage with the community and serve the public. In addition to his concern for vulnerable communities, Chu has been a staunch advocate for democracy in Hong Kong and China. In 2010, he retired, believing he had lived a fulfilling life. Yet in an unexpected turn of events in 2014, he once again found himself at the forefront of history, leading the Occupy Movement. Approaching 80 years of age now, he has truly embraced retirement. Nevertheless, his thoughts are always with the comrades who fought alongside him in Hong Kong for many years.
