On July 7, 1977, the New York Yankees hosted the Cleveland Indians. It was the seventh day of the seventh month of the year seventy-seven. As Mel Allen would say, "How about that!" I had my trusty cassette recorder with me that night and recorded the legendary Yankee Stadium PA announcer Bob Sheppard, who gave his pre-game announcements and the starting lineups. Note how he starts introducing Cleveland's lineup and then pauses for a minute, before starting over. Also note that Reggie Jackson is batting sixth in the order. (He went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI.) Incidentally, the Yankees won the game, 8-2, behind Catfish Hunter's complete game victory played in a nifty two hours and 12 minutes. Those were the days.
