Specialist contractors "Land & Water" move onto site at Wallbridge to clear the heavily silted section between Wallbridge Upper Lock and Doctor Newton's Way. Following the initial clearance of scrub from the canal bed by volunteers, the first task is to stabilise the landslips of building waste which had been tipped down the offside bank. An outer curtain of timbers and porous membrane will eventually be held back securely by cables.
The first part delivery of eighty eucalyptus poles will be each cut in half, sharpened at one end to a point, and then be driven into the ground at the toe (bottom edge of the slope).
The dredger is able to negotiate water and solid ground using floating tracks, and a temporary dam has been installed near Doctor Newton's Way.
