Описание к видео 2020 10 22 FCCT Thai contemporary art in transition Forward or backwards in the post Covid 19 era?

Thai contemporary art in transition: Forward or backwards in the post-Covid-19 era?
NOTE: This event follows the launch party and artist talks for “Art from Thailand’s Deep South,”* all welcome to attend both or either, from 6:00 pm.

Thailand has become one of few countries to proceed with an international art festival in the pandemic era, with the launch on Oct. 29 2020 of the second edition of the Bangkok Art Biennale, featuring work by contemporary artists from Thailand and around the world. Other art events to launch in coming months include regional art festivals such as Ubon Agenda 2020 and Khonkhaen Manifesto in Thailand’s northeast, planned for November and December.

These and other events suggest that Thai contemporary art is alive and well, but what about the international context?

Following cancellations of major art events including the various editions of Art Basel and many other leading festivals and blockbuster exhibitions, what scope is left in the post-pandemic era for interactions between local and international artists, museums, galleries and events? How will art events in general fare, when logistics including movement of art and artists around the world has been severely curtailed and art galleries, exhibitions and festivals have migrated online? And what is the impact on the once-thriving art market, in Asia and beyond — how does it affect art curators and critics?

To discuss the implications for Thailand’s nascent contemporary art scene, for the region and more generally the future dynamics of art events and festivals, our panel of experts includes:

Apinan Poshyanada, chief executive and artistic director of Bangkok Art Biennale

Kong Rithdee, Deputy director of the Thai Film Archives film and culture critic

Gridthiya Gaweewong – Artistic director, Jim Thompson Art Center, and guest curator, Maiiam Contemporary Art Museum, Chiang Mai.

Jehabdullah Jersorhoh, Founder and director, Patani Artspace, and professor at Prince of Songkhla University’s Fine & Applied Art Faculty

*The “Deep South” exhibition is hosted with the kind support of the New Zealand Embassy in Thailand.
