TRIP REPORT | The Best B787 I've Seen! Top! | ETIHAD Boeing 787 | Vienna to Abu Dhabi

Etihad Trip Report flying from Vienna to Abu Dhabi onboard one of the Etihad Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on a perfect summer sunny day.

A comfortable flight on the Etihad B787 from Vienna to Abu Dhabi. The Boeing 787 is a very nice plane for a long-haul flight; together with the Etihad cabin in light brown and golden colors, any flight is really pleasant.

We departed from Vienna from runway 16 and quickly made a left turn towards Hungary. Before reaching it, we had some amazing views of Bratislava (Slovakia) and, just a few minutes after, we overflew the city of Budapest (Hungary). From there we flew towards Serbia and Romania, enjoying some very nice views of Bucharest on the way, just before reaching the Black Sea.

We soon reached Turkey and crossed it all the way from northwest to southeast, enjoying some beautiful views of the Turkish Mountain System, until we reached Irak. After an almost 90° turn we flew in an almost direct course to Kuwait City. After flying over Basrah, we entered the Persian Gulf and flew on direct course to Abu Dhabi, where we landed around 20 minutes late after a beautiful approach.

In terms of catering, Etihad is one of the big airlines of the Persian Gulf, but has the fame of being the 3rd one in overall service, after Emirates and Qatar Airways. Well, sadly I have to agree with that. The food was good and tasty, but not at the level of those other 2 airlines: neither in taste nor quantity. Especially the quantity: it's really small. On top of that, there was no pre-landing meal/snack and the cabin crew didn't pass through the cabin offering any drinks at any time.

So, my conclusion after flying with Etihad for the first time is that, with no doubt, they are behind Emirates and Qatar Airways in basically everything but, at the same time, they are ahead of many European airlines in economy class.
