More than 90 percent of referendum voters in Egypt voted "yes" to a new constitution for the country, according to state media.

Official results are expected later today..

The constitution was drawn up by Egypt's military-backed government, which has been in power since the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in July 2013.

The vote came amid violence, and a boycott by some supporters of Mursi and the Muslim Brotherhood movement.

On Thursday, at least one person was killed and dozens more injured in clashes at Cairo University.
Security forces stormed the campus and made several arrests.

Major General Mahmoud Farouk told euronews: "We found a number of bottles of kerosene in the possession of the arrested students - supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood. We also found cocktails and "Rabia" symbols, as well as masks and metal tools to attack us."
