After emigrating to Costa Rica from Nicaragua, Elizabeth needed a way to earn money. The cost of living in her new country was higher than her family was accustomed to, and she knew she needed to support them. Drawing on her skills and passion, she decided to open an at-home salon. To succeed, she needed access to the best products and treatments — the kind that would attract and retain clients. Unfortunately, high demand drove up costs, and those premium products were inaccessible — until the Kiva community stepped up. With the help of 14 Kiva lenders, Elizabeth’s USD$875 loan was funded. With that support, she was able to level up her business and purchase high-quality treatments and products to draw new clients.
