The Black Summer bushfires killed billions of native animals, and pushed koalas closer to the brink of extinction in eastern Australia. But the tragedy of the Black Summer has also led to widespread interest how traditional Indigenous fire management can heal the land and protect vulnerable native animals. On sacred land in Yuin Country, cultural fire is being reintroduced to protect the habitat of the last known koala population on the NSW far south coast.
