A brief snippet of Illumine rehearsing the opening of "Ad manus", the third cantata from Buxtehude's Membra Jesu nostri, followed by a snippet from the opening of Caroline Shaw's companion piece, "To The Hands." Illumine will perform both works on Sunday, October 5 at 2:30pm at Grace Church Amherst.

Our conductor, Arianne Abela, writes:
"Our featured choral works by Caroline Shaw and Buxtehude focus on hands. Hands can represent connectedness, support, human touch, violence, and countless other aspects of our shared experience. As someone born without most of my fingers, my hands were a part of me I hid over and over again, until I realized they would be my greatest tool to connect people in music, our common language. In these two works, we see the wounds of Christ as a representation of the wounds in the hands of immigrants and refugees, and we ask ourselves, What can we do to harbor those in need? How do we hold others in our own hands?"
