Giant 1/5th scale Heinkel He 111 debut flight at LMA Sleap 2024

Well the Heinkel made its first show appearance after over 20 years in the making.

Weather on Saturday was overcast as per usual with UK weather but it took its place in the sky with other large bomber aircraft and flew superb.

Landing was a bit of a heart stopper. I had thought the B17 had been moved off the runway and Heinkel came a bit too close as it parked itself on the edge of the runaway. More luck than judgement. The tail needs a little more work as the wheel is spring loaded but it likes to turn left on landing so will need to re think the steerable tail wheel to keep it tracking straight while landing.

Second flight was cut short as we had an in issue with the radio gear which meant it didn’t fly on the Sunday. A real shame as Sunday was absolutely gorgeous weather and would have been perfect conditions to display the Heinkel. Something I haven’t had since flying it.

So a bit more tweaking needed but looking forward to the next show in a couple of weeks time. 🤩🤛
