“They get that home project done, maybe pay some bills, and have that confidence that they also have that cushion for the unexpected expenses,” Nephew said.

Building savings can also lessen the stress of rising gas prices and inflation. Money management coaches can help members determine how to put money away in emergency savings.

Harborstone also offers a Save My Change program geared toward everyday spending. It rounds purchases to the nearest dollar and automatically transfers that to savings.
