Secretariat - Bay Shore (G3) - Aqueduct Racetrack 03/17/1973

The G3 Bay Shore at Aqueduct Racetrack on March 17, 1973 marked the three-year-old debut of Secretariat. Much had happened since he completed his brilliant two-year-old season. He collected a pair of Eclipse Awards. His status as two-year-old champion was surpassed by a Horse of the Year title. Only one juvenile since, Favorite Trick in 1997, has been named Horse of the Year. Following the passing of Meadow Stud founder Christopher Chenery, Secretariat was syndicated for a then-record $6.08million. The deal insured that Secretariat would have just one more season of racing to secure his legacy. So he did. Big Red and Ron Turcotte completed the 7 furlongs on the sloppy Aqueduct track in 1:23 1/5. The legendary three-year-old season of 1973 was officially underway.
