Under the Sea

A little story to add, after the fact (Feb 2019).
This is the first "marimba-band" video we've made, the second marimba video I (Stephen) have ever made.
Performing Under The Sea was originally a bit of a joke for us. The drummers at MacEwan university (really they are there for drums) are made to do some mallet-percussion (eg piano-shaped instruments like this). I had already done a lot of mallet-percussion (actually, having a fairly large repertoire of memorized classical music...), and really was there to work at being a better drummer... lo and behold, I still had to do more mallet percussion. After getting Eric and Dale here to play Stubernic (an actual incredibly challenging trio piece, which I had wanted to play for a while, one of my ways of dealing with this), I played with arranging a number of things for different types of percussion ensemble.
For one of our drum jury performances, we had to perform a calypso. I jokingly suggested to them that we could play Under the Sea in some sort of percussion ensemble way.
Eric and Dale loved the idea. I think my drum teacher was less impressed at the performance, with our marimba, vibraphone, guitar, bass, vocalist, drumset rendition.
Much later, I thought... really, we should try making some videos. See what happens. There was a recording studio at MacEwan, and some recording students... Eric and Dale told me that really, we should modify my arrangement and make it for three people on one marimba. Sure!
So: this is our "what the heck, let's see what happens" effort.
As with my first cell-phone marimba video, this one led to a gig. Tagging this video on our personal Facebook pages (again, Feb 2017), a lot of people clicked "Like" and "Share". I have no other explanation for why, one month later, we were asked to perform for the 2017 Ford World Curling Championship. [Note, my personal website at the time was connected and developed enough, with enough of a resume that I might look, you know, kind of legit].
Pulling out this version of Under the Sea remains always a hit, wherever we might perform.
So, musician people! Actually, all people! Try things! Put yourself out there! You never know what might happen.
