We all know August 15 is India's Independence Day.
On that day the Andhra Pradesh Government will launch a new scheme.
The scheme called "Sri Shakti" offers free travel for women on state-run buses.
Andhra Pradesh Transport Minister M. Ram Prasad Reddy had an official meeting with government officials.
After the meeting the minister said this is our election promise made by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
So we are approving this.
Under the Sri Shakti scheme, 6,700 government buses will be used.
Women can travel free of cost in all government buses from villages to cities and metropolitan areas.
Passengers will need to show any valid ID card such as Aadhaar card, ration card, voter ID, or passport to avail the benefit.
The Andhra Pradesh government will spend ₹1,950 crore on this scheme.
In addition, the government plans to introduce 3,000 electric buses soon.
This model is not new.
Tamil Nadu was among the first states to launch free bus travel for women in 2021.
Following its success, states like Karnataka, Telangana, and Delhi have also implemented similar schemes.
Now Andhra Pradesh studied these models before finalizing its own plan.
The aim is to reduce travel costs for women, encourage them to participate in education, employment, and social activities.
