"President Trump came and went from the World Economic Forum in Davos in just over 24 hours. Along the way he diffused one self-manufactured crisis over Greenland by backing off a tariff threat against eight European allies, and he took steps to resolve two other crises, not of his making. Russia's war against Ukraine and the conflict in Gaza. This morning Trump inaugurated his Board of Peace to lead efforts at maintaining a ceasefire in Israel's war with Gaza and possibly help resolve other conflicts, but details remain unclear and many US allies are sitting it out. On his way out, Trump walked down these steps and said he had had a good meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky and looked ahead to a US meeting with Vladimir Putin. His message for the Russian leader 'End the war'."

STORYLINE:
US President Donald Trump spent 24 hours at Davos, Switzerland where he attended the World Economic Forum.

During his attendance, Trump diffused the issue of Greenland after it was announced that he and NATO head Mark Rutte had agreed to a future framework for security in the Arctic.

Before backing down, Trump had urged Denmark and the rest of NATO to stand aside and let him have Greenland.

No details of the hastily agreed “framework” deal that sparked Trump’s extraordinary reversal have been made public, and doubts about it persist.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen insists that her country will not bargain over its sovereignty.

During his time time at the forum, Trump also me with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss plans on ending the war with Russia.

The U.S. and Ukrainian leaders were together for about an hour in what Trump described to reporters as a good meeting.

The Russia-Ukraine war “has to end,” Trump said, adding, “We hope it’s going to end.”

U.S. representatives will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday.

Trump also used the Forum to unveil a proposed “ Board of Peace ” for Gaza, bringing leaders from more than a dozen countries onstage Thursday, although many top American allies aren’t participating in the board.

European leaders are expected to agree on a joint approach to Trump's proposed “Board of Peace,” which was initially envisioned as a small group of world leaders overseeing the Gaza ceasefire but has grown into something far more ambitious.

Days after telling the prime minister of Norway in a text message that he no longer felt “an obligation to think purely of Peace,” Trump put the spotlight on the proposed board at Davos.

Trump has spoken about the board replacing some of the functions of the United Nations.
