DAF 2800 Celebrates 50 Years | Bugler Transport Visits DAF Head Office

Almost fifty years ago, in September 1973 at the IAA Show in Frankfurt, DAF unveiled a new truck that would prove crucial to success of DAF brand here in the UK. Coinciding with the founding of the UK’s DAF Dealer Network and bringing impressive fuel economy as fuel prices increased due to the oil crisis, the 2800 would earn almost legendary status amongst early DAF customers. To mark the 50-year anniversary of its launch we are lucky enough to have a fine example on display in the Atrium at Haddenham.

On loan from Bugler Transport of Poole in Dorset, this fine example was purchased new from Morey DAF on 1st September 1977 by Reg Bugler, father of current Managing Director Chris Bugler. Morey DAF had become a dealer in 1973 and Reg had acquired his first DAF, a 2600, from the dealer a couple of years before the 2800. The 2800 was active in the fleet until 1999, clocking up 1.3 million kilometres before being parked up until, about 15 years ago, Chris decided to restore it to its former glory. And it was the team at Adams Morey that Chris turned to, leaving the truck with them to carry out the faithful restoration, which has maintained the originality of the long serving, hard worked, high mileage icon.
