The word Dussehra comes from the Sanskrit words `dus` meaning ten and `hara`, meaning annihilated. This day is a celebration of the victory of Lord Rama when he rescued his wife Sita, and destroyed the ten-headed demon Ravana. Ravana had ten heads which represent the evil facets of his character. These heads manifested whenever he got angry, which was quite often!

At Bhaktivedanta Manor, every year the Pandava Sena youth group brings to life the adventures of Lord Rama in the form of a drama. The play, based on the epic Ramayan, culminates at the great battle between Lord Rama and Ravana.

When Lord Rama takes his final shot with his bow, a huge effigy of Ravana in the field bursts into flames. As the fire burns Ravana to the ground and the smoke bellows, spectators are reminded not succumb to the dictates of lust, anger, greed and envy.
