The Canadian government has an open climate consultation on how "How can Canada reduce emissions by 40 to 45 percent below 2005 levels by 2030?" A number of environmental non-governmental organizations (ENGOs) have banded together and produced a toolkit of pat responses that people can send along - but this video challenges the fairness of that kind of activity. Many of the top ENGOs in Canada are not only tax subsidized 'charities', but are also funded by governments for various projects. Likewise, while Canada's federal government is planning to impose much more expensive carbon taxes/Clean Fuel Standard costs on you to reduce emissions, at the same time it is planning to bring ~400,000 new immigrants to Canada every year. Each new immigrant increases our national carbon footprint, mostly because most immigrants come from warmer countries and they need to use more energy, just to survive here. Between 1990 and 2019, Canada's greenhouse gas emissions flatlined - but our population grew by 37%. Since Canadian fertility rates are only 1.6 children, it means that immigration affected our ability to meet targets - and remember, these comments are strictly about carbon footprints, not people. Immigrants are fine - but you can't ask Canadians to bear heavy carbon tax burdens while bringing in thousands of people who will need lots of energy to survive here. The Canadian government survey was posted over the Christmas Holidays, so many people have not even heard about it, yet it may be one of the most consequential public consultations in terms of the impact on your daily life, work and jobs.
